The new CD by Geovane Santos, ‘Jobim’ is available for purchase
7 string guitarist, composer, vocalist and arranger, Geovane Santos was classically trained in his native city, Belo Horizonte. He moved to New Orleans in 2015 and his 2019 debut album “Jobim” pays tribute to one of Brazil’s greatest composers of all time: Antonio Carlos Jobim. This bilingual project represents a collision of worlds: Brazil with the United States and the Caribbean. Santos’ creative collaboration speaks to his experience studying and playing in the New Orleans music scene, the diverse mecca of jazz, funk, rock, blues and world music. He transformed the renowned Bossa Nova standard “Garota de Ipanema” into a reggae song and “Agua de Beber” into a Calypso tune. Other numbers were either “samba-fied” or “jazzed up” to highlight the flavors of Brazil or the feel of American Jazz with tracks featuring vocals in Portuguese and English.
